In A Minute: Famous Christmas Words
You shall go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways. Luke 1:76
Zacharias finds His voice and he prophesies over his son, John. John is known as a forerunner because he was on the scene before Christ. His ministry revolved around preparing the hearts of the people to receive Christ.
What is a forerunner? The word occurs only once in the Bible in Hebrews 6:20.
The word signifies one who comes in advance to a place where the rest are to follow, or one who is sent on before as a scout to take observations.
In this sense we are all forerunners. We have been saved by the grace of God and are left here to be witnesses of that saving grace. We are called to share the glorious news of the gospel to those around us.
John’s voice pierced through the spiritual darkness of that time and brought conviction to many hearts. Then when Christ appeared at the River Jordan to be baptized John exclaimed, “Behold the Lamb of God which takes away the sins of the world!”
That’s our mission, saints. The Lamb sits upon the throne and His blood still cleanses from all sin. That’s a message of hope during this season. The child who shared the stable with lambs became the Lamb who takes away sin.
Behold the Lamb!
